Target audience

The target audience for my film would be relatively diverse but although the film is not gruesome or specifically 'scary', it does aim to disturb the audience and does create a sinister feel, which may be less understandable for those of a younger age group (below 12).

In terms of gender, it will aim to attract both genders, but generally may target a more female audience. This is because it involves three female characters and aims to portray the relationships between women, as well as using stereotypically 'feminine' interests such as dolls. The film also could be seen as representing the construction and presentation of a woman who does not exist. The Girl/Doll in the movie fits the standards and expectations that society has held over women in the past; looking feminine and 'pretty' with delicate, rosy makeup, wearing a dress, eating very little, acting submissively and not speaking as she seems to not have any of her own opinions. This woman turns out to not exist as it is revealed that she is only a doll and a figment of somebody else's imagination.

It has also been proven that Psychological Thrillers are more commonly watched by a female audience as it has been shown that women prefer to watch film portraying emotional and mental conflict, while men prefer to watch physical conflict.

However, this is all subjective and the film will target anyone interested in psychological thrillers/ dramas.

The film will be rated a 12A. While it could be PG, the criteria of PG films says that the film 'should not disturb a child around eight or older' and this movie aims to leave adults feeling a little disturbed. However, a 12A says that 'there may be moderate physical and psychological threat and horror sequences. Although some scenes may be disturbing, the overall tone should not be'. This film will only aim to cause a discomfort and slight psychological disturbance but will not show any violent imagery or be outwardly scary. This also, will mostly be in the very last sequence and in general the film will mostly, only be tense. This means that children younger than 12 can watch the film, and likely will not be too disturbed, but they still should have an adult present.

However, it may appear different to an older audience than 12 year olds as the ending is entirely down to subjectivity and an understanding that both characters see the girl differently. We can read more into the twist and the characters than we are shown.
